4. Kulturens Östarp

Time has stood still at Kulturen's Östarp.

The heart of the open air museum is the old farm from 1811, with its enclosed courtyard and furniture, textiles and tools from the past.
The garden is laid out in rustic style, with box-hedges, roses and an arbor which is well worth a visit. The old farm is situated in attractive countryside with fields, meadows and pastures on billowing hills.

It is easy to understand why the founder of Kulturen's Östarp, Georg Karlin, didn't have the heart to move the farm to Lund 's open air museum, which was the original idea.
Östarp is a living, working museum. The fields are cultivated in the old ways and you can find many rare weeds, like Lamb's Succory . Work is currently in progress to build a farm from the 1830s and one from the 1930s. Even the livestock at Östarp are orignal, with almost extinct forms of cows, pigs and goats. You can also pay a visit to the windmill, the flax-dressing house and the malt-dryer. All of these buildings had a special function in old farming societies.
The focal point of the open air museum is the inn, where you can buy good food or treat yourself to ice-cream.

Getting there: Östarp is signposted from the road between Veberöd and Blentarp.
