5. Svaneholm

Svaneholm castle is an impressive Renaissance castle built at the head of Lake Svaneholm . It is built as a rectangle, with a courtyard in the middle.

The castle museum has fine exhibitions including interiors from a country shop, an upper class home and a farmer's home; displaying tools, textiles and silver. Svaneholm tour – an old hunting path around the lake is ideal for those who enjoy a good walk. If you want to explore the lake you can rent a rowing boat and fishing tackle.
If you get hungry you can enjoy a simple picnic on the castle lawns, or dine in style at the castle's restaurant.
Today, Svaneholm is owned by a co-operative. The most famous of the earlier owners was Rutger Macklean (1742-1816). Macklean was a radical politician and pioneer of shift reforms. These reforms joined together many of the smaller plots into larger, more productive fields that were moved closer to the new land. This had a great effect on agricultural modernization and the results are still clearly visible today.

Getting there: Svaneholm is situated north-west of Skurup, sign-posted from the E65 between Malmö and Ystad.
